Beach destinations are among the the most coveted places to visit on this globe. The beach brings visions of relaxation, vacation, meditation and sun absorption at its best! That's why I've chosen to use the beach as an analogy for motivation.
I'm putting a program together to empower and motivate young girls to meet their goals in life. We can't teach what we don't know so it's caused me to to dig deep to discover what motivates me to meet my own goals. What I realized stunned me and has woken me up from a lifetime of unfinished projects and commitments. What I discovered is the key to finally meeting goals that seemed so attainable before.
When I searched myself and my motivation to succeed, I discovered desperation, discomfort and fear were what drove me. I was stuck in a continuous cycle because whenever I felt comfortable again, I'd stop pursuing my goals with the same velocity, therefore they wouldn't get met. I'd stay on the sand, bathing in the sun of 'where life takes me' rather than taking control and forging my own destiny.
Sound familiar? I know I'm not the only one who has this problem. So what do we do about it?
If you don't know your motivation - why you're striving to reach a goal - chances are you'll stop when it gets rough. Believe me. Two failed home-births resulting in C-sections gave me this ultimate knowledge.
In my case, I needed to change my motivation entirely, or discover what other motivations I had and begin to recognize and use those instead of fear and desperation as driving factors in my life.
I looked at a list of 57 values and determined the five that will have the greatest influence on how I live my life and the choices I make on a daily basis. Things like, accountability, achievement, ambition, caring, caution, collaboration, communication, compassion are all values that drive our decisions. If you want the entire list shoot me an email at email@example.com and I'll send it to you.
Perspective is how I see life and people. The magnitude of depth and breadth every individual has to affect the universe (that means you!) is full of intention and purpose.
From my perspective, your life isn't a passive accident. Your purpose and my purpose is much larger than we know or realize. My goal has always been to open hearts and minds to that reality through all my communication.
What are YOUR goals and what is keeping you from achieving those goals?
When I'm not focused I just sun bathe and watch life happen.
I realized I can either bask in the glory that's already been established by others success and achievements, or, I can get off my butt and run feet-first into my own abundant life fulfilling my own goals and dreams.
Sure, there are risks. The ocean is full of unknown creatures waiting to nibble at my feet in temperatures my body must acclimate to, and engage muscles I've not used before. I could get pulled under, go too far out, get tired and drown. I could also find solace on a raft or I might just decide to swim the whole damn English channel.
After all, breaks are only a shore away.
